I recently read a quote that hit close to home; “women are expected to work like they don’t have children and mother like they don’t work“.
Being a mom is HARD! And being a working mom is even harder!
This is not to say stay at home mom life isn’t hard, but I personally don’t have any experience to write about that. From experience with sick days and holidays, I know that keeping baby entertained at home and getting anything done is nearly impossible.
I am a WFH mom. I work from home and have a corporate 8-4 job along with writing for this blog.
My job is pretty demanding since I have to be on the phone most of the day and available when clients call.
Therefore, my son does not get to stay home with me and has to go to daycare.
Having a rough schedule or routine is key for me to stay sane and get all the things done that I need to during the day. Below I will share with you what my average day looks like as a WFH mom.
Morning Schedule
My morning schedule as a WFH mom is pretty basic. I am not very much of a morning person, no matter how much I would like to be.
My ideal morning would include getting up early, reading and relaxing, maybe working out and drinking coffee in peace.
But, instead I normally sleep in until the last minute when my husband’s alarm goes off.
One thing I would love to work on is waking up earlier. But, for now my morning schedule is as described below.
6:30 am wake and get ready for the day
7:00 am wake Corbin, feed bottle and cuddle
7:10 am Corbin plays with dad while I pack lunches
7:20 am dad gets Corbin dressed while I get dressed
7:30 am out the door to daycare
7:45 am dad leaves for work (1-2 days a week he takes Corbin to daycare)
7:50 am arrive home from daycare drop off
8:00 am make breakfast, get coffee (
Mid Day Schedule
Most days I am glued to my computer from 8am-4pm with multiple phone calls, powerpoint presentations to watch, and endless emails to answer.
I do try to do some block scheduling to break up my day into meaningful time slots and take a few breaks!
I am also salaried so sometimes I do have to log on and attend calls before 8 or after 4pm or even in the evening if I have a lot of work to do.
Below is how to try to break up my day to stay a little sane!
8:00 am Daily touch base call with my team
8:30 – 11:30 am Work grind
11:30 am Try to get some things done around the house
12:00 pm Lunch break (I try to log off the computer and actual eat)
12:30 – 3:30 More work grind
3:30 pm Wind down, try to get some things done around the house before picking up the baby from daycare, prep dinner if I can
Evening Schedule
My evening schedule is a bit more productive.
Since I like to sleep in, I shower at night after Corbin goes to bed.
Thankfully, we developed good sleep habits early on so Corbin normally goes to bed between 6:45 pm and 7:15 pm these days. On days he naps terribly he might even go to bed at 6:30 pm!
6:35 pm clean up dinner, dad plays with Corbin in the living room
6:45 pm Corbin bathtime
7:00 pm Corbin gets in pjs, read books, cuddle, bedtime (read more about the importance of a bedtime routine)
Night Routine
After Corbin goes to bed we normally finish cleaning up the kitchen from dinner and pick up the rest of the house.
After that I finally have some “me” time to take a shower and relax. One thing I would love to start doing is going to the gym after Corbin goes to bed.
7:15 pm clean kitchen, pick up house, misc. chores like laundry and trash
7:45 pm relax on the couch and watch tv with hubby
8:30 pm shower or bath
8:50 pm get ready for bed, start the dishwasher, close all the blinds, fold the laundry I started
9:00 pm read in bed
9:30 pm try hard not to fall asleep until at least 10:00 pm
10:00 pm bedtime
After typing out my night time schedule it seems so nice in relaxing.
But, in reality I think most of the late evening is spent cleaning and doing chores!
At night I like to prep lunch food to be packed in the morning, put away everything that was piled in the kitchen and kitchen table, do a load of laundry, make the coffee, etc.
What does your day look like? Are you an early riser or do you sleep until the last minute?
