Here i’m sharing all my thoughts on why SAHMs should get out of the house every Monday!
As a stay at home mom, it’s all too easy to spend Monday locked away in the house, feeling overwhelmed, overworked, and generally unenthused by the never ending duties that come with motherhood.
But, one habit I’ve implemented has made Mondays, and many other days throughout the week, much more manageable–getting out of the house on Monday mornings. Whether that’s running errands, meeting up for a playdate, or simply taking a 15 minute walk around the neighborhood, getting out and about on Mondays is one of the best ways I can make each week more enjoyable and enjoyable for my family.
In this article, I’ll discuss the importance of getting out of the house as a stay at home mom, the many benefits this simple act offers, and how you can incorporate it into your routine. So, if you’re ready to eliminate Monday blues and make the most out of your week, let’s get started.

What do we do on Monday mornings?
First off, in order to get out of the house you will probably want a few things to actually do! You could totally just drive around if that helps to clear your head, or consider going in your front or back yard or on a walk around the neighborhood.
I personally try to do one fun thing like an outing to the park or a play date, and also throw in my errands like grocery pick up or any appointments we may have if I can get them to work out that way.
Here are some more ideas to help you get out of the house on Monday mornings:
- Go to the library
- Go to the park
- Do your grocery pick-up or run into the store for a few things (I find it super hard to do all my shopping with the kids and avoid it at all costs)
- Grab some coffee at a coffee shop
- Get smoothies
- Visit a friend
- Playdate at the park
- Go somewhere you have passes (zoo, aquarium, museum, ect.)
- Run errands
Why SAHMs should get out of the house on Mondays
Sets the Tone for the Week
The number one reason why I try hard to get out of the house on Monday mornings is that it sets the tone for the entire week. If i can get out and move my body on Monday, i’m way more likely to get out of the house and seek that movement the rest of the week, too. If the kids start out the week happy, I’m more likely to have the time and energy to plan fun things for the rest of the week too!
Helps with Morning Motivation
Honestly, as a stay at home mom where no where to be most days, mornings can seem like a drag and quickly turn into a unproductive time. Getting up on Monday morning with “somewhere to be” helps with the drive to get out of bed and get ready for the day. I’ve found that doing this on Monday also helps with morning motivation for the rest of the week as well!
Helps to Feel Productive
By getting out of the house on Monday morning, I know at least one day that week will be productive. Let’s face it as a stay at home mom, you can sometimes get overwhelmed and overstimulated and just want to shut down your brain. I find that even if the rest of the week my house is a disaster and I feel like I’m drowning and never ending chores, I know I can look back and feel that at least one day of the week was productive!
Gives some Predicability in the Week
Getting out of the house every Monday gives myself and my kids some predicability for the week. We currently don’t have a ton of scheduled activities, so some weeks the days definitely blur together and seem mundane. . It’s hard as a stay at home mom to have a set schedule for every day of the week, but picking one day, especially Monday no helps my kids know that that day will be getting out and getting things done.
Gets Grocery Pickup Done on Monday
After a lot of trial and error, i’ve decided that Mondays are the best days for me to get our groceries for the week. I try to avoid the weekend because I like to save weekends for family time and adventures. As a stay-at-home mom, i’ve found that I don’t like using up our family time on Sunday for errands and groceries, so I save it for Monday.
Also scheduling it for Monday allows me to have a plan for the rest of the week, too! I’m not scrambling to decide what’s for dinner or running to the store last minute.
